• Human Rights and Civic Space Program

    At NEVCO, we are committed to advancing the human rights of women and ensuring their full and equal participation in civic life. Our human rights and civic space program works to protect and expand the rights and freedoms of women enabling them to fully exercise their agency and contribute to their communities. Under this program, we amplify womens voices and focus on several key areas to empower them and create more equitable and just communities. Areas focused on are;

    • Advocacy and Legal Support: NEVCO works to advance women’s human rights through policy advocacy and legal support. This includes Monitoring human rights violations by Documenting cases of gender-based violence, discrimination, and other human rights abuses against women, Legal representation and support where NEVCO connects women facing human rights violations to legal teams to get legal assistance, Policy engagements where NEVCO is involved in Advocating for legislative and policy reforms that promote gender equality and women’s rights and Lobbying and awareness campaigns whereby NEVCO tries and Works hard to raise awareness of women’s rights issues and influencing policy change at local, national, and international levels.
    • Civic Engagement and Leadership Development: Under this slot NEVCO empowers women to become active and effective participants in civic life by Providing training and mentoring opportunities to develop women’s leadership skills, Capacity building where women are equipped with the knowledge and skills to advocate for their rights and participate in decision-making processes, Networking and collaboration whereby NEVCO Facilitates connections between women activists and organizations and Promoting women’s participation in political processes by Encouraging and supporting women’s participation in elections, governance, and policy-making.
    • Community Mobilization and Awareness Rising: Nevco works to raise awareness of women’s human rights and promote social change through community mobilization efforts by organising, developing and implementing Public awareness campaigns to raise awareness about critical human rights issues, arranging Community education where women are Provided educational resources and workshops on women’s rights and civic participation and Grassroots organizing focused at Supporting grassroots movements and initiatives led by women.
    • Research and Documentation: NEVCO conducts research and documentation on issues related to women’s human rights and civic space to inform our advocacy and program development and Produces reports and publications by Sharing the findings and recommendations with policy makers, journalists and the public and also make Data collection and analysis by using data to monitor trends and advocate for policy change.

    The human rights and civic space program aims to protect women from human rights violations, empower women to claim their rights and participate in civic life, and promote gender equality and social justice and to strengthen civil society and democratic processes.

    About NEVCO

    Nelcon Vulnerable Communities Foundation Ltd (NEVCO) is a female led non-governmental organisation that was formed as a result of a powerful collaboration between two dedicated activists Agaba Costance and Kinaheirwe Nevalyn. United by their shared belief of the power of women and gender equality, they founded NEVCO to empower women to thrive by promoting their human rights, environmental and economic justice.
